Not sure if this has been posted but Laurens ten Dam is on Strava and is uploading his TdF rides.

Last Saturday's stage.:

You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

Yeah, they're cool. He has been doing it for a year or so. The only pro I think (?) who uses it in races.

Wednesday's stage: 61 km/h average on 4 km run in to St Malo 8)

Wonder whether he'll still do it next year at Sky. Dombrowski, Swift, Uran, and Boswell use it only in training

Would be great to see smoe other pros using it. Right now he holds pretty much all the KOM everywhere they race.

I was persuaded (by Alan A I think) on account of his Strava posting and general all round style to support tem Dam to be the top Dutchie at the tour. He's losing at the moment, but I have faith.

Separately, I struggle to interpret the Strava data. I know it's all there somehow, but I find it hard.

If you are Mark H then CHAPPEAU young man.

Jeremy Roy http://app.strava.com/athletes/1655561 is also uploading his data. It's good fun comparing Laurens and him.

Are any other riders uploading their TdF data?

    Have that.

I nabbed a few places off Rab Wardell on Cathkin Braes, but I rekcon being on a cross bike probably skews it a bit.

Will you be at the MTB champs next weekend?

I know a couple of guys who are coming up for the Vets race, but I have a cross in Cumbria that day.

That and I don't own an MTB

He's getting KOM on most of them , but by no means all.

There's a lack of segments for the length of rides they are doing, sometimes in 100 miles there's only a handful, whereas if I did a 100 mile ride here there would be pages and pages of segments. I wonder if it's because they are on main roads away from the normal cycling routes.

That's because there is a ridiculous proliferation of short pointless segments in the UK.

Happy to be corrected, but I don't get the sense that Strava has taken off in France the way it has in the UK... cycling around there I was suprised how few riders there were going up the segments (and how unrealistically high I was)

True, also my experience in France. In Holland on the other hand the segment-density is very high; Kings of the Mountains everywhere :o

Absolutely correct. I live in France and have been on Strava for about a month.

There aren't that many other people using it round here - nothing compared to the UK. Have a look at this for a very clear visual representation of segment densities:

I am of course currently exploiting this to get unrealistically high up on segment leaderboards.

When you look at that in terms of area, the UK is a bigger user of Strava than the entire USA.

I've followed Laurens on Strava for a long time now and I find it very interesting to see his traces from pro races.
However, I actually think it's a shame that Strava doesn't have separate leader boards for segments ridden during races. Peloton assisted KOMs seem to me to just be spoiling it for local riders doing those segments on their own. And let's be honest, it seems unlikely that Laurens is really the fastest of the peloton on all of the segments he gets KOMs on.

I guess I might have a different view if I'd managed to take a KOM off him (big congrats for that Term1te) ;-)

I'm above Dan Fleeman on the road by my house, but I have a sneaking suspicion he wasn't trying very hard.

That was at the end of a reconnaissance ride a couple of days before the Marmotte. Just getting to the top was worth celebrating. Pre-owning a Garmin days unfortunately, so no Strava bragging rights (but I'd be just outside the top 5% to the TdF finish, I still have the photo of my old bike computer, but that doesn't really count)

It is a pity the pros don't record/publish their performances on Strave for some of the classic climbs. But why set themselves up to be shot down, we'd just spend our time analysing the data to prove our particular beliefs about a given rider.

Yeah, I follow Alex on there, he's a local lad so I like to see him decimate some of the KOM times on there. Thankfully he doesn't do that many as I don't think anyone, ever will beat his North Hill time! I'm one second off one of his times on a local evil hill but I very much doubt he was trying!

Looks like the UK is the country most obsessed with strava! I do love it even though I've only got a few KOMs it's excellent for motivation. Nice when you can see just how pants you are compared to the pros too!

Taylor Phinney used to post regularly to Strava but not so much recently. I also follow Pinotti, Dombrowski, Demare and Vichot although all are selective about what they post.
