This is a two part question, first my rear cog set is spinning freely and when i pedal i am going nowhere. How do i fix this? it has recently been rode away from the workshop at je james in rotherham and it was a little loose. It seems everytime I go there for a repair theres something not quite right. No one seems to put there heart and soul into anything anymore, as far as I'm concerned, theres two ways of doing things, so it right or dont do it, its no their ride so they dont give a F@*%£.
The second part of this question is how do I learn to do all my maintenance and repairs myself, is there a course that I can do so that I can can be completely self sufficient in that way because I am sick of handing money over to shops to do a half arsed job?
:-)

It's likely that the pawls aren't engaging with the ratchet. If its' old and not been opened, the freehub in which these two parts are housed, will be shagged. If it has recently been opened and serviced, the mechanic could have packed in too much grease which can stop the springs pressing the pawls to the ratchet.
As for learning, i learnt by riding with a more experienced fellow and borrowing his tools and experience until i could do it all myself.0 -
