Woodrup?

Away from this forum, somebody suggested that in response for my requirements outlinedhere, I might want to take a look at a Woodrup. They had no first hand experience but liked the look of them.
Of those custom builders I have spoken to, Woodrup seem to have the shortest lead time (apparently they can start a frame in the next week), but they also have the least amount of information available when looking around the web for people riding them. Main experience I can find is of folk with some of their old frames.
Does anyone have recent experience of their frames? Am looking at the Sportivo or il primo as fitting my needs.

As far as I'm aware, Woodrup stopped building their own frames a few years ago, and were built for them by Bob Jackson. However, they've now got their own frame builder in-house, so I doubt there is anyone out there who have experience of these 'new' Woodrups.

Dunno of anyone with a new one, why not give them a go? Tell us all about it! You'll be riding something unique and if done right, stunning.

True. And if done wrong, I'll be riding something unique and rubbish! I never have been one for taking risks when they cost me £1k!

Why would it be rubbish? Can't see it myself...

Rubbish is perhaps a bit strong but any number of reasons they could not be what I want. I just don't want to assume that because they make custom frames and charge a lot for them that they will be exactly what I want, hence asking for first hand experience. In the same way that when I have asked some folk for experience on other builders, it has turned out they are not what I am after, no matter how nice their website and pricetag.

Exactly. I can't imagine Steve Woodrup would risk bringing down the shops hard earned historical reputation through employing a shit framebuilder!

No, you're right, I used a strong word to emphasise a point that I don't want to blindly risk £1k of my hard earned without feedback.

Well I would be the same. Don't know where you live but it might be worth visiting Woodrups, see if they have a frame you could look at and ride? That's the beauty of ordering a custom frame - you can visit the workshop and meet the guy who's going to build your bike, it brings a nice extra dimension to the finished bike.

Yeah, suggest you pay them a visit, have a good chat.

Edit: I don't mean that in the Tony Soprano sense, the prospective customer sense...
