Started March 2012 got a Trek GF Bodega Hybrid through Ride2Work. Started 3/4 days a week. 8.5M each way although I have multiple routes which I do run and will often do 12 in and 8.5 home as it's a 10pm finish for me here.

Got it upto 5 days a week with the odd exception in Autumn. Got a Fixed Gear 46/15 (82.8") which is definately a bit higher gear than I had probably bargained for but it's always a good work out. Now using this for my commute each day. Gave the Trek to the wife.

This month my wife and I travelled from Lanark to Ayr, Irvine, Isle of Arran, Rothesay and Loch Lomond over 5 days after purchasing a second hand Ribble. She took the train home from Loch Lomond but as I cycled home mostly via NCR's with a few accidental detours managed my fist 50 Miler. Hadn't planned on it as initial route was meant to 44 miles which would have been a new record anyways.

Currently commuting 5 days and cycling extra 50miles a week with the wife :D. Loving it!

    1988-1997: walked to work
    1998-2001: drove 40-80 miles
    2001-2005: worked from home
2005-2009: cycled 2 miles each way. Used 531c steel roadie with rucksack.
2009-2011: cycled 5 miles each way. Started doing occasional 10 mile TTs. Started around 32 minutes, got down to 28:27. Used 1990 steel MTB with City Jets and pannier. (For the commute, not the TTs. ;) TTs are done on the CR1.)
2011-2013: cycled 2 miles, train 60, cycle 3. Then the same in reverse. Did no TTs due to getting home too late. Used Brompton with C-bag.
2013-past 3 months: cycled 2 miles each way. Back on 1990 steel MTB. Did first 10 mile TT for 2 years last night. Knocked 44 seconds off my best time with a 27:43. HUZZAH! Got round to joining local cycling club after 25 years of thinking about it.

Hard to say what effect it's had on my health. I'm still overweight (13 stone at 5' 7"), and a couple of years ago I had a bout of bad asthma. The inhalers seem to have put that in check, but I've also had two DVTs in the past 2 years. Maybe I'd be a lot worse off with cycling, but it's been an everyday part of my life since I was about 7 years old, so perhaps I haven't benefited as much healthwise as people who've done little or no exercise for a while.

I do have a resting pulse of around 44 though.

I should add that my weight is down from almost 18 stone (114kg) to a shade under 13 Stone (82kg) now putting me back into 'Healthy Weight' for the first time in years.
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.
