Got an '05 Seat Alhambra (like a Galaxy) - want to replace current rubbish cycle carrier with a Saris Bones 3 but will need a light board

How does one wire this in?!?!?!?!?

It's just a hill. Get over it.

Light boards normally plug into a socket on a tow bar. Were you planning on getting a tow bar as well?

You can do a proper job and get the towbar fitted or you can bodge something together yourself.

On some cars you can just patch into the wiring using crimp connectors known as Scotchlocks on the rear lights and run wires out a rear window to the light board.

On more modern cars just wiring some extra bulbs into the car will confuse the computers and could cause problems. You can get wiring kits with relays which isolate the new lighting from the old, or you can get proper wiring kits which plug into a socket somewhere in the car but may need a setting changing in the car's software to power it up.

I'd suggest asking a local caravan place or an auto electrician for a quote in the first instance, explaining what you need it for. If you don't need the tow bar then see if they can do something with just the electrics and give you a trailing socket to thread through a rear window when you need it.

For info, here's a couple of links to wiring kits for the Alhambra to give you an idea of what this one part retails at: http://www.pfjones.co.uk/alhambra-7-pin ... 500rc.html

I went down the bodge your own route. What I have at the moment is a bit unreliable and gives an error on the car's computer. When it works though it's a thing of wonder ;D

Although if you have an Alhambra, can't you just put the bikes in the back of the car?

There might be a socket in the rear of the car hidden behind a panel near the rear light clusters.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
