Front dérailleur problems.
Hi,
Went out for a short ride today and had to shift down on to the small ring to get up a small mountain, ok hill, anyway when I got back onto the flat I tried moving back onto the big ring but all that happened was a lot of chain rub. I moved onto the smaller cogs at the back and tried again and the chain moved onto the big ring but then instantly fell back down to the small ring again.
Any ideas what could be wrong or am I best just taking it back to halfords and getting it fixed under the warranty?

the cable tension is probably a bit low, with a new bike it can take a while for the outers, ferrules etc. to fully seat
if there's an adjuster on the downtube, give it a turn to tighten the cable, otherwise loosen the cable clamp and pull a bit more through

I'm very impressed that you bothered to put the accent on 'derailleur'!0
