Shops lowering prices after you ordered

Bought a bike for £1400. The bike is fantastic and it is now in used condition. I was looking at the website (I won't name and shame) it now on special offer @ £1165, difference of £235. I am unsure when the price actually changed. I ordered the bike 32 days ago but it was only delivered 27 days ago. Within their 28 day returns policy.

Not sure where stand on this really. I am not out to get something for nothing, I am simply looking for fair treatment from the company I have spent my hard earned cash with.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. What would you do???

As you've ridden it, you likely have little rights unless its broken. I think the remote selling rules are only valid for 14days from receipt, so you've blown that. I think you probably have to suck it up TBH. Shame, but bikes always go down in price eventually, so its just bad timing.

Yeah thought as much, makes sence. I am still going to send an email to them and let them know my feelings, got to be worth a shot.

I worked in retail management for a few years and our store promised that if the price came down within 28 days we would refund the difference, hoped that would be the case for everyone.

Prices can go down and up. Fact of life. Move on by means of riding your bike.

When I bought my Canyon the price went up a week later does that mean I owe Canyon about £80. Suck it up and ride the bike if you waited another week you might have got it cheaper but equally likely they would have been out of stock in your size or colour.

You accepted the price when you ordered it so you will have to live with it. Prices will drop at some time, you just got unlucky.

Lesson learned. NEVER look at the item you've ordered after ordering it online again! Whatever the item: trainers, a coat or a bike! You'll only end up pissed off!

It will be cheaper somewhere else or in a sale!

If it's CRC give them a ring and ask if there's anything they can do. ime they are usually pretty good with this sort of thing. Even if it's some vouchers for the difference it's better than nothing

I think if its within a week then its fair cop. If its over a week then you just have to suck it up and chalk it up to experience - usually you can predict the sales period so next time buy either when the product is new or wait for the sales period.

You didn't mention if they still had your size - they may of dropped the price because they were out of the popular L & M sizes and were trying to shift the less popular XL and S/XS sizes.

Thanks for the advice, it wasn't CRC.

I have sent the retailer an email just to express I am abit annoyed, just waiting on a reply. Lets see what they come back with.

I suppose the concellation is they now have run out of stock in large. Ill take my anger out on the trails tonight. :D

Your 28 days should be from the receipt of the bike not 28 days from the order.

I think you should stop whining, and enjoy riding the bike you were happy to pay £1400 for.

They're hardly going to tell you, lol.
  • how is this the fault of the shop? should no shops ever have a sale in your book then? but then how do they get rid of old stock or stuff that wasn't as popular as they thought it was going to be? should they advertise they're going to have a sale in 28 days? but what if you buy the day before they announce the sale in 28 days, would you still whinge? maybe they need to announce that in 28 days they're going to announce a sale in 28 days......that'd solve it.....but wait, what if you bought it the day before..........:lol::lol::lol:

if you didn't think it was a good deal at the time you bought it, then you wouldn't of bought it, or maybe you would :lol:

if you buy after a model has been out a while and close to when the new models come out, then chances are it'll be on sale in the not too distant, but you're risking not getting one in your size - it's the chance you take. other than that it's just one of them things, no ones fault, don't let it ruin your life :lol:

Erm, there's only one idiot here, and it's not cooldad...
How can you possibly be annoyed at the shop for marking down the price of an item a month after you bought it? It's hardly as if they saw you coming and waited for you buy it is it? Christ, grow up and accept it.

The OP asked a reasonable question - can people treat him with a little respect please?

If you can't do that you will be warned, then banned.

    There's three scenarios aren't there:
    1) They say the price will not change soon and it doesn't.
    2) They say the price will not change soon and it does. Then you might have some justification for a complaint such as the OP has made and possibly a more sympathetic hearing if they want to retain your custom.
    3) They say "I can't tell you that!" and you buy from somewhere else.

why would you buy from somewhere else? surely if you were buying from them in the first place then they'd have the best price : service ratio going on, just because they won't tell you if they're going to have a sale within x, you'd decide to opt for a worse deal somewhere else? it make no sense :?

surely when buying something you look for the best deal around that is available when you want it, otherwise you'll never buy anything, always waiting for the sale or the new model to come out. buy it, don't look back and enjoy it until it's fucked and you need to replace it

Plus any shop with any nouse would just tell you they get next to no warning when a sale is coming up.

is dfs still going? could you imagine their blood pressure if some of the people on here bought something off them :lol:

That can cause a problem for low cost airlines, I do believe they get a lot of customers complaining after they've booked a flight and found the price has gone down! A lot of people just assume that the price starts low and goes up as you get towards departure, but that's not the case at all!

Fights are a bit different, you can't sell a seat on a flight that's already flown!

My reasoning is right there in your post when you mention best price : service ratio. If price is your top priority then sure, buy from the cheapest available at that time and damn the torpedoes. But if you're buying from somewhere that you're expecting to have an ongoing relationship with in terms of service, repairs, upgrades and kit (and not paying rock bottom price as a result), I think they would be treating me in a way that would make me think twice if I wasn't warned about a price drop happening within a couple of weeks, say.
