Hello all, I was out on my bike this morning and I started to hear a rattle from the front wheel. I stopped and after a quick inspection I found a loose spoke but the top hat thing that holds it into the rim and used to tension it is nowhere to be found. My question is , what is that top hat thing called and can I buy them from anywhere? Any advise welcome.
Thanks in advance
Craig

    nipples

if it's simply come undone then it'll be inside the rim somewhere, you can get it out and re-use it

you can get one from lbs, otherwise...

  • Nipples? Not at all what I expected them to be called. Ha ha. Thanks for your help. Do they come in different sizes/ shapes etc that I need to check before I buy?
  • Sorry should have added that I've taken the tyre and inner tube out and can't find it in the cavity between the inner tube and the inside edge of the rim. I've shook it and nothing seems to be rattling around. The hole that it sticks through isn't damaged so can't have come out that way. Complete mystery. The only thing I can think of is that it fell out when I was trying to find it and I didn't notice.

it might have got lodged inside, have a good go at finding it to make sure, otherwise it'll come loose in future and drive you insane with the rattling

    yes different sizes

    get brass ones not alloy

lbs will be simplest place to get one, take along the wheel so they can get the size right
