Converting bike to SS..what will be needed?

I wanna go single speed on my current bike, will put a rigid fork on it but will I need a ss rear specific wheel or is my current one (7 speed hub shimano) be usable. Whats a good gearing to use and what parts will be needed? Budget wise cheap but not silly cheap. Brakes will be hydraulic discs.

See if you can pick up a new set of knees while your at it. Grunting up a climb SS can make your kneecaps feel like they are going to explode.
