I need to replace the bearings, can anyone help me with some advice for removal of the old bearings from the frame? Are the threads handed (ie left and right hand) and if so which side is which thread?

this may help...

...there are other tools than park's, once you know which bb type you have you can shop around
if the bb was factory installed a while ago it may be very tight, when fitting the new one make sure you clean out the bb shell and threads, and put some antiseize on the threads of the new bb when you fit it, helps avoid problems in futuremy bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0 -
I replaced the BB on my Secteur Elite (Apex) about two months ago (Truvativ Powerspline but yours may be different) - the job is dead easy - removed cranks with a crank puller I got of ebay and BB with BB tool from lbs fro about £7 - follow the guidance given and take your time.
Cause I wasn't 100% sure which BB I had I bought the BB from an lbs took it in and showed it to them. I got a wee leaflet with my bike but I wasn't sure. You can order online cheaper if you know which you need (or pop it out to check and then put it back in till the replacement arrives).
PS- I did mine with the bike upside down on the dining room table and it didn't even get dirty!0 -
Thank you, I tried to book it into my lbs but they told me that there was at least a 2 week wait, so thought I'd do it myself.0

I thought I'd close this out, having completed the job in case anyone else needed to to the same. The original BB has only lasted just over 2 years and the bike has done about 2,000 miles. The BB assembly is truvativ powerspline 68x108 mm. It's english thread so the right hand (drive side) is left handed thread. I needed a crank remover an a socket for the BB, I had the former and bought the socket on fleabay for a fiver. Took me about 30 mins to remove and refit.
Thanks for the assistance.0 -

Exactly the same BB as mine and same job - easy when you know how and have the tools
PS- I think 2 years is not bad for a BB - mine lasted about the same time but probably 4k miles (all weather miles) so maybe 2k is not so good. The guy in the lbs told me these aren't very good BBs and they scrimp on grease - he said they unpick the little rubber seal with a flat blade like a Stanley Knife blade and pack extra grease in but I was scared to mess around with the seal on mine.0 -
Yes you're right about the poor BB quality, there is quite a large exposed gap around the spindles and water had obviously got into the brgs as there were signs of rust on the old unit.0
