Cannondales are starting to grow on me, especially in team colours. Lovely bike. Hope you have fun on it

Could do with some after market decals on the wheels just to brighten them up. Not keen on deep section rims with no graphics.

    Cheers lads

Can you suggest a good tyre?

I'll have a look for some decals.. do you know of a place to get them..?

Ultremo ZX or Conto GP's for tyres. BLACK ONLY!!!!

Can find companies that sell rim decals on ebay. I Will look for you if I can remember a company name.

This. Seriously don't get Ultremos - they're crap.

    Also, slam that stem!

I have no idea what's going on here.

I disagree, I have never had a problem with the plain black Ultremos. Set I have on now look as good as new. They can cut a bit but so can GP 4000's I don't think there is much between them performance wise.

Agree on the stem mind. Would look so much better.

I've seen so many people with Ultremos tearing apart or threads stripping etc.

What did it for me was seeing a friend fly off his bike when his Ultremo ZX exploded during a crit - on the last lap when he was in 2nd place. He was a DNF in the end.

I have heard of people having problems in the UK but I have never exerpienced them first hand or know anyone who has. I had 2 get ripped to shreds on UK roads cos they are crap (the roads that is) Back home in Germany I have never had a problem.

I have also seen people getting sidewall bulges on GP4000's so nothing out there is infallible.

Why do people always insist on slamming the stem? I've always been told that changing the position of any of the contact points on a bike, even slightly, can have a significant impact on position and comfort. If slamming the stem, and thereby increasing the reach, is to the benefit of the OPs position and comfort, then yes, slam that mother! But to do so purely on the grounds that it may look better is just dumb.

Nice bike btw. I have exactly the same bike in the team colours too. :D Agree about losing the green tyres though.

Not really. If you post pictures of your bike on the internet for people to comment on, then surely you'd want it to look its best?

Cannondales look daft unless you get a "slam that stem" top cap anyway, that conical spacer is ugly.

You don't need the bars level with or higher than the saddle. It looks stupid - buy an endurance geometry bike and slam the stem if that's what you need.

But seriously, bikes with loads of spacers look wank in photographs.

I agree a slammed stem is more aesthetically pleasing. As is having the chain on the large ring and the cranks aligned properly with a non-fussy background. The OCP rules are not being observed!

Hence why I said get a "slam that stem" top cap you muppet.
  • Sure a slammed stem looks better for a photograph but you'd be daft to do that if the bike then doesn't fit you properly.

A top cap is the bit with the screw in that sits on "top"....

But he's not riding it. He's posting a photo for us to look at on teh Internet.

Leave the wheels blank. After market decals look naff.

Get some Veloflex or Vittoria Open Corsa tyres for speed/niceness or some contiGPs for a bit more toughness but rolling on a hosepipe.

No it isn't. It's a spacer. The headset lies underneath so if you're of a sheepish disposition the stem can be 'slammed' to your heart's content, without any additional parts. Personally I would encourage the OP to concentrate on getting the stem at the right height for him rather than what 'looks best'.

interesting - I've got a 'dale and you're the first person I've seen who's got one who has about the same amount of seat pillar showing as me ie not much!

How do you find the standover on yours? Mine's...tight...

It's just a hill. Get over it.

The standard headset cover (rather than the comical (sic) version) is supplied underneath the conical version ... To sell a bike with over 60mm of spacers is just daft ... If you can't ride a race bike in a racey position then buy a sportive bike ...

I have very little seatpin showing on mine, but have the front end dropped with the flat headset cap and a 5mm spacer ... The pin does look shorter in the 31.6 version as it's that bit chunkier ...

I'm only 5'6" and have the 50cm version ... The 48cm might have a better standover height but too many other compromises so i stuck with the 50cm the same as my previous Six13 ...

  • I don't get the argument re the stem. If you're not supple enough to get down into a decent aero position on a race pedigree bike like that, then what's the point in bothering with the deep section wheels? Kind of like fitting a caravan to a Red Bull F1 (the rider being the caravan).

Still far too many riders being consumed in this deep section rim business.

Difference a ds wheel will make= minimal.
Difference working on your flexibility and getting your body frontal area down= measurable.

I know, I know.....we all want to look like ze pro's with ze deep section wheels. If you really want to "look like ze pro", whilst actually receiving some measurable advantage then yes, slam that stem :D

    (nice bike of course btw)
