Hi all you helpful peeps :)

I have just gained a 2002 stumpjumper M4 FSR frame, which I intend to build up.
I have everything I need except a BB & crankset, does anyone know what type of BB was fitted to these, or what type will fit.
I am concerned to get the right thing, dont want problems with the chainline or anything else, & I dont have any BB's to try.
Also, which BB thread did specialized use back then ?

Cheers.

Depends on the crankset you want to fit. As Chunkers said - Deore HTII around £50, comes with a BB, but you'll need the BB shell faced, probably around £10 at your LBS.
It probably came with a cartridge BB, but which one you need will depend on the crankset you want to fit.

ah, ok, thanks for the explanation.
excuse my ignorance, but why does the shell need facing ?

Slight change to the plan (possibly), the guy who owned the frame originally has just brought round a raceface turbine crankset that he says was on it, its an ISIS fitting (10 splines).
Can anyone advise how I can tell what length the BB spindle needs to be (hopefully without trial & error, cos I have to buy whatever I need, so could do with getting it right first time)

You need to look at the tech docs for the crankset to see what axle length you need.

But according to Bikepedia that's not what it came with originally, so back to Raceface.
