Thought I'd post a photo of my first proper road bike. Got into cycling at the start of the year on a hybrid but feel that a road bike is the way to go. All as standard spec with the exception of the Mavic Carbone SL wheels. Thanks to NIall at Posh bikes for all of his help. Can't wait to get out for a ride on Saturday, or call in sick to work tomorrow!!. BIke way above my ability at the moment but will have some fun improving!!

Not bad for a first road bike! Looks lovely, but some pedals may be of help

Saddle needs leveling but otherwise looks great! :D

    Road - Dolan Preffisio
    MTB - On-One Inbred

I have no idea what's going on here.
  • Thanks guys, yes pedals would be a great help!!!,saddle will also be sorted shortly!. Being relatively new to cycling I'm not 100% convinced with clipless. Been using SPD SL for the last couple of months, haven't fallen off yet, but still don't have 100% confidence with them. Have read good things about Speedplay LIght Action, pricey, but get good reviews, I''ll maybe go down that road. Anyone use these pedals?.

I'm considering not buying Speedplays as they are too easy to unclip! Don't worry about SPD-SLs - if you have a 'moment' you should be able to unclip with brute force. Instinct will be to put your foot down. I've had a fair few 'moments' but have unclipped in time for all of them!

  • Cheers Declan, the easy unclipping part is what appeals, but as you say, I have read they are maybe a bit too easy to come out of. Haven't yet had a " moment", but I'm sure as the panic sets in brute force may do the job!!!.

I can't speak for other makes as I only use Look pedals but splash out and get a top set of them: ease the spring tension right down to start with and once you start getting confident tighten the springs up.

At the bottom level you can unclip as soon as look at them so no worries re falling over and it'll save you buying two sets of pedals, shoes etc etc.

For the bike its not worth buying Keo Easy or similar - go upper range in the sales or head to Planet X and you'll get something seriously light that will compliment the bike, last for ages and be well light, like.
  • Thanks Yossie, I think maybe the fear factor has kicked in now that I have moved from a Hybrid to a carbon road bike that my wife will kill me for if she ever found out how much it cost!!. In bike terms to me I got a great deal , for her it's a week in the Bahamas!!. Falling over on my hybrid and scratching the paint.......fine....now, no no no, I love it!.
