Do you mean hollowtech II? Ie external BB not hollow arms.
  • yes i think so the 2 bit's with the bearing's in are either side the frame sorry im not familier with this set up

Buy yourself a Park bottom bracket tool and get a Shimano XT bottom bracket. Even when I was 16 stone I used to get a years use out of them. Takes about 10 minutes to change a BB. Make sure you clean the threads in the frame and put on some copper grease before fitting the new BB and remember to put the spacers in the same as you took them out.

The bb is not really where the strength is, that's in the cranks themselves. XT bb will be fine. What cranks have you got?

Any of the hollowtech cranks are strong enough unless you are 20 stone and riding big drops badly.
Cranks break most often through impacts during crashes. I know people using XTR cranks for downhill racing with no trouble and the new Zee downhill cranks are just re badged deores.
  • the cranks are shimano deore, is there much difference between a deore bb and say slx, xt or even xtr seems a big price hike if not? i dont mind paying more for strength also what does ceramic meen on a bb?

i dont do any big drops/jumps mainly xc kinda stuff these days

The SLX/XT BB's (same part) and XTR have better sealing and do last a lot longer than Deore.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

XT bottom brackets last twice as long as deore. Well worth the extra cash.
  • ok cheers for the help and advice all
