    As a general rule of thumb, when a cyclist (of any ability) tells you what power they did or can do, knock about 5-10% off and you'll be closer to the real figure.

    Would a pro cyclist not want to undersell themselves perhaps - or just make up a number on the spot (either greater or larger). I expect their real figures are kept close within the team. How is "functional threshold power" calculated anyway? a 30min or 60min TT?

    During the Wiggo documentary about his 2012 season they directly quoted his Watts over 30mins. I remember thinking - yeah like they'd really share the real number with every man and his dog.
    You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
    If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
    If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

    FTP is your max average over 60 minutes.

    Well that's what it means, yes.. But it's often measured by doing a 20min max effort and extrapolating.
