Latex tubes and tyre sizes

Just purchased two Michelin Latex tubes sized 22/23c, bit concerned as the tyres are Vittoria Corsa 25c; does anyone have any experience of using a latex tube narrower than the tyre they are to be fitted to. Thinking that they may stretch a little too much?

  • will work fine! latex has an even better stretch rate than bitum. I just found that the latex tube need to be inflated more often and air will run out a little faster when stretched.

would like to know if you experience a (positive) difference!

    good luck!

Well, completed the Bowland Badass yesterday using the latex tubes, used them on Thursday for a 30 mile spin to see how the compared to a standard tube, and took the chance on using them for Saturdays ride. Very pleased with how the bike felt, but the tubes were not the only variable changed, I was using newly fitted Vittoria Open Corsa CX 25c.

So, I can't comment on the tubes themselves, just the combination of tyre/tube. I have them mounted onto a pair of Campagnolo Shamal Ultras, a stiff wheel and a stiff frame, a Cinelli Experience (Alloy), they certainly take the edge off the vibration that comes from the poor road surface. It is noticeable too, the high frequency buzz was greatly reduced. As for rolling resistance, this is more difficult to comment on, other than they certainly don't slow you down. Took a number hits on some dodgy pieces of road too and they didn't go pop; all-in-all very pleased.

Oh yeah, ran 105psi front and 110psi rear.

  • Tnx for the review. Good to hear you've upped the ante with those virtually perfect tires.
Latex tubes and 320 tpi carcass will have you emulating a tubular tire in suppleness.
