Saddle bag suggestions for a road bike

Can anyone suggest a large saddle bag for a road bike that doesn't need a pannier rack, please?

I am looking of a bag that can carry a phone, wallet, spare tube, tools etc that fits like a usual road bike saddle bag. It needs to be easily removed when not required.

Cheers,

Kev

  • When you look at the Carradice saddle bags, check if the one you choose needs a special bracket to hold it up. Some are that big that they need one or it would end up on the back wheel.

The SQR Slim is perfect for commuting. Fits A4. No sweaty back pack with the weight in the wrong place. And doubles up as a mud guard.

The ortlieb classic large is bloody large and way too big for all that stuff you have listed. I have a medium as well as a large and the medium will take:

    2 inners,
    CO2 pump and 2 carts,
    Waterproof,
    Multitool,
    Phone,
    Cash and credit card and
    House keys.

All this fits in fine. If you really need more space then the large is great- the QR bracket is small and unobtrusive and the thing pops off quite simply whilst being secure when needed. The added bonus is that if you have different size classics the clamps are all the same!
    RIP commute...
