Hi guys,

I am looking to sell my Triban 3 Road bike (great bike up for sale soon) as I'm struggling with the ride position on the road bike.

I am looking at a hybrid as mainly commute in hilly Sheffield, and also to get out at the weekend for steady rides.

I really like the new Hoy range from Evans, especially the model below Shizouka 003

I've also seen the Boardman Hybrid Comp which is £250 cheaper at present.

What do you reckon to these two, or can you suggest any other bikes? Ideally don't want to spend too much and want to keep weight to around 10kg (why I don't want to use my mtb as too heavy)

Thanks for any advice/suggestions!

I'd be back to Decathlon and looking at the Fit 5:

Light, well equipped, good spread of gears.

    Hi Tjrae,

I think the Specialized Sirrus is worth a look. Very much a road-orientated hybrid, if that's what you're looking for. There's a disc-brake version that has a nice spec at a similar price to the Hoy -

    Cheers,

Boardman Road Comp - OK, I went to Halfords
Tibia plateau fracture - the rehab continues!

The Fit5 is by far and away the best value for money you'll get, although personally I prefer disc brakes for commuting for the more instant wet braking.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

I am steering more towards disc brakes as will be using it through the winter.

The other option would be to put flat bars on my road bike, is it something that's easy todo for a bike mech?
  • I got a decathlon btwin form 3 for a mere £200 on the sale and it is really good value. Very light for the money, and good wheels.

However, I wish I hadn't got it as it turned out that it had minimal clearance for guards and the LBS couldn't get the SKS ones on it. Had to put Crud Road Racers on it and I don't like em.

So watch out. What looks like a fast and light hybrid may be quite an awkward road frame...

If I were doing it again I'd get a Carrera Gryphon.
