I bought a pair of RS80 just over a year ago (March 12) and whilst in general I have found the wheels very good, the rear has needed to be trued by the LBS twice.

Once was minor (but rubbed on both brakes) the other was so bad it would not spin in the frame never mind brakes.

Yesterday, I did the great Manchester cycle and after finishing noticed that the wheel was badly out of true again. So bad that it would not pass through the breaks without .

My question is - is this typical? Do I need to true them more regularly or could there be something wrong with the spokes/rim, is the LBS not truing them correctly....?

Tony

PS I am about 80kg by the way... :) , and when I say about I mean slightly less...

most likely your shop is not truing them correctly...

I've had my RS80's for over a year and put more than 1000 miles before needing to re-tension. I tweaked them myself with the Shimano supplied spoke key. No LBS visits needed yet. Did 104 mile charity ride yesterday after truing them Saturday; a bit of plinking for the first mile and now rock steady. No issues at all. I have not had to do anything to the front wheel ever. I am 83kgs, so not exactly lightweight! I think you need to change LBS's to maybe an accredited Shimano centre as truing RS80s is difficult with so few spokes under such high tension.

Never had a problem with the front.....sounds like I need to try another LBS as the next step. Anyone know an accredited Shimano centre or good LBS in Sale, Altrincham, south Manchester area?
