Fork Advice

Hi,
Looking to get a new set of Rockshox forks but I'm getting a bit lost with all the choice so wondered if someone could point me in the right direction.
I've always had Rockshox so would like to stay with them... looking for fork to do XC and trail riding, over 100mm travel, 15mm maxle fitment and air adjustable and to be able to lockout, damper and rebound adjust.
I'm running 26" on a Rockhopper 2011 Comp SL hardtail but if they had the ability to take 650b for future proofing then all the better as I don't think I'll be replacing them anytime soon after this
Any thoughts?
thanks,
Dan

budget?
Reba RL's would be the obvious choice though. Tick all your boxes"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

budget is around £350 but if I can get away with spending less its always a bonus.
I was looking at the Sektor RL's?
Btw it's a non-tapered steerer.

Hi i have just bought some RockShox Reba RLT 120mm from Planet X and am very pleased with them. I was a bit apprehensive about changing my aging Fox F130RL forks but i am glad i did. Not sure if they still have a sale on but they seemed to have lots of options.0

Planet X/On One have some good deals on RS at the moment0

thanks all, fair to say that i've been confusing the hell out of myself looking at all the spec's but have narrowed it down if someone can advise me to narrow it down even further
Sektor RL Solo (from Planet X) or Reba RLT (2012 from Merlin) - or am i way off base?
thanks,

thanks had been thinking that also.
How does the 2012 Reba compare to the 2013? ...I just went 2012 as the 15mm axle was out of stock

The 2012 is dual air, so more tunable, but they tend to ramp up more at the end of the travel.0

you mean get stiffer? so a good fork?
Dan0 -
Both are good forks, just have a different feel. What you prefer is down to you. The Dual Air can be set up for a smoother start, but harder finish, the single air is more linear.0

more meant in terms of quality, features, robustness etc.... reviews look good but just looking to gather as much info as possible.

The 2012 is exactly the same as the 2013 except one is dual air, the other is not.
RL is rebound and compression adjust to Lockout, RLT adds adjustable blow of valve ie threshold.0 -

worth the extra?
Dan0 -
I'd say so, it allows more tuning.0

thanks for all your help - certainly know allot more than i did this before
will there be any problems taking the frame to Rockhopper Comp SL 2011 frame to 120mm or should i be staying 100mm? ....surely the difference would be lost in sag?
thinking more about going solo air for simplicity is the SID RLT 2013 or SID XX 2013 a better fork than Reba 2013? or still best off with the Reba 2012?
(...I'm sure ill get there in the end, havent had much fork experience and dont want to make the wrong choice )

Having said that, lots of people ride rockhoppers with 120mm and have no issues at all, so I see no issue with using 120's.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -

that makes sense - doh!
am I right in saying that in terms of the forks I'm looking at that the SID XX would be best then SID RLT followed up by 2012 Reba RLT and then 2013 Reba RLT?
Dan0 -
Have a 2012 sid rlt 120 on my boardman ht pro carbon .it is a superb piece of equipment once set up for you.0

I just bought a 2012 revelation etc3 and its great although only 140-120 travel. One thing to consider is that the new 2013 forks can only have their travel adjusted by changing the air spring rather than just adding / removing spacers. Not sure the other models are the same but worth checking.0

Had another question, this time with the pushloc/poploc remotes on RLT models..... if i set my preferred compression will the remote allow me to switch to full lockout and then released not have lost the compression setting? or is that what you need the RCT3 for?
Dan0 -
Only Poploc adjust allows fine tuning of compression damping with RLT.0

supersonic wrote:Only Poploc adjust allows fine tuning of compression damping with RLT.
not quite what I meant, if i set my compression as i like it can i apply the lockout and then revert back without loosing my setup on either poploc/pushloc or crown adjust on the RLT?
thanks,
Dan0 -
You cannot set up compression damping with standard poploc. Is either off or on.0
-
supersonic wrote:You cannot set up compression damping with standard poploc. Is either off or on.
but with a crown adjust on the RLT you could? ...thought that the RLT had the blue dial and you could position anywhere between lock and open to vary the compression?

thanks to all, forks arrived yesterday and promptly fitted to the bike
(although haven't had a chance to ride it yet!)
2 questions......... is it worth swapping out my 2012 XC 30's on my commuter with the 2011 Recon Silver SL's i've just free'd up? was thinking it would as they are both turnkey shocks but the Recons are 32mm which must be an improvement?
secondly..... as far as setting up the rct3 pretty simple to see locked and fully open but any tips on setting up the platform setting? ....as far as i had it in my head that it was pretty much locked out and the LS Comp set at which point it gave in and gave full travel, is that right?
thanks,

Dan, Nice forks. Where did you get them from in the end? and if you dont mind me asking how much where they?0
