9 speed shifter advice

Building an Orange 5 and am currently working on the gears. Need some advice on shifters as it really is boggling my head in. Set up is currently:
SLX double specific front mech
Shimano Saint rear mech
9 speed XT cassette
Shimano XT crank 32/22 with bash
Looking to set this up as a 2 x 9 (obviously lol) so want ideas on what will work and what won't, preferably Shimano to keep with the rest of the gear.
And can you use 3 speed front shifters with a bit of tinkering?

Any 9 speed Shimano shifters will.
With a 3 speed front you just wind the H screw in to prevent the last shift.
The Saint mech has to be 9 speed though.0 -
Yeah it's a medium cage 9 speed mech.0
