newbie wants first road bike advice

Hi everyone,

apologies if you are sick and tired of New threads about which bike they should get but I am really confused by it all. I am looking to take up cycling but not sure I want to spend a lot incase it really isnt for me!

anyway ive seen a few bikes and wanted to see if I could get some advice on what to go for and why. All the specs cnfuse Me and I dont know what it better.

    Buy something really cheap second hand and give it a whirl. If you don't like it you haven't wasted loads of money on a brand new bike. If you do like it, you won't risk wasting your money.

    For what it's worth, the TDF hasn't started yet and you are considering taking up cycling, so your chances are pretty good.

    Good advice. All those bikes linked to are crap basically. For that sort of money you'd get something much much nicer second hand.

    Can I ask what makes the carrera or the dawes bikes better than the ones I linked to? Again im all New to this so I havent clue about all the terminology
