Do I need to adjust the tension in my SPDs?

I've just started using my road bike regularly and using Shimano SPD SL pedals with SH11 cleats. I always unclip right foot on approach to junctions etc. Today I noticed that it took quite a bit of twisting of my right foot to release out of the SPD. When I was pedalling along I felt more movement in my right SPD than my left. It clips in really nice and easily and the cleats are still screwed down nice and tightly and no slippage. Do I need to adjust the tension on the SPDs? I have a feeling I need to make them tighter to clip out easier/quicker if that makes sense - is this right? I'm brand new to all this and would really appreciate some advice. Thanks.

No you'd need to loosen the tension to clip in/out easier (small allen key, rotated anti-clockwise). Remember to do both pedals by the same amount.

If the cleats are old they'll lose the crisp clipping in/out quality. Did you get new pedals/cleats?
