Hi guys amd girls,

Looking to get a new set of shoes but want to get a good price (so that means bying online) therefore need to have an idea how Sidi and Specialised shoes 'size up' against Shimano ones.

Currently I ride a set of 46 Shimano R086 - did have 45's but put on a radiator and the front ends creased up a bit and in the winter left no space to warm my feet.

Also have a Tri version in 45 - feel a bit boxier but fit.

Just wondered if anyone could advise how Specialised and Sidi's compared.

Thanks,

Dru.

I found same size Shimano and Giro shoes to fit similarly so they're about equal in sizing. I can't help with Spesh but I think Sidi do come up small, so maybe size up by half or one full size if buying them. I'm sure someone with experience of both will be able to help more. Or you could try them on instore first, then do some research, and go back and ask if they'll price match with what found online for.

I have some shimanos and just got some specialized and was a EUR size smaller in the specialized. Mainly because they were a bit wider round the toes.

Sidis, particularly the newer models, are on the slim side, but nothing a little wearing in can't handle.

    Specialized 2013 S Works 45.5, Shimano R315 45.5, Side Wire 46/46.5

My view is that Specialized and Shimano are comparable. Sidi I need to go 0.5 to 1 size up, especially if using Specialized insoles.

Saving money isn't as good as choosing a comfortable shoe

They'll last years so make the right decision. Buy from a shop.

    unethical route -
go try in a shop then get online...

    Ethical route -
spend that little extra and support your lBS

personally with shoes I will only buy what I can get my hands on and physically try on.

Specialized Comp Road shoe is what I am wearing

    I normally take a 43 in most non-cycling shoes.

My Sidi Genius road shoes are a 44 and fit perfectly. And I've got various Shimano shoes, again 44 is perfect.

So in my experience Sidi and Shimano are comparable, and you need to go a European size up.

I can't comment on Shimano shoes but I am certain that Sidi for me are one size up from Spesh (46 v 45).

I bought A pair of Sidi SPD shoes in a shop in Can Picafort a few years ago and I am still trying to make them comfortable. They fitted fine in the shop.. Different socks and insoles (Asics) have help a bit up to around 20 miles. But any further I use Shimano. As for sizing 46 in both. Thinking of trying Spesh road ..!!!

Try in a shop, buy online

This chart from http://athleteaudit.com is also a little helpful for seeing how shoes from different brands stack up against each other, although finding the width of shoes can be a little stricky

ask for a price match in the shop after trying on, best of both worlds?

Some of the answers will depend on which specific shoe you are looking at

Funny how different people have different views on how shoes fit.

Post above about how Spesh is wider than Shimano but I have always found it the other way round. I can't wear Spesh or Giro shoes as they aren't wide enough, but I find Shimano and Bontrager a good fit. Haven't tried Sidi as I have always heard they are on the narrow side.
  • I found I had to upsize so much in the narrow fitting shimano I ended up with clown shoes.
The Specialized are just perfect for my width of foot.
