Hi Guys, im just getting started road biking to get my fitness up.
Reason is I can no longer run because I have arthritis and the impact on road is slowly destroying me.
I have been offered a 2nd H bike im going to see tonight and wondering roughly what I should expect to pay for it.
Its a 10yr old steel bike. These are the details.
- Arthur Caygill Columbus Frame
- 23" Campagnolo Mexico 68 Alloy wheels, both quick release, with high performance braking control;
- Red Michelin Orium tyres;
- Campagnolo Xenon rear 9 speed derailleur group set;
- Shimano quick release pedals;
- Campagnolo Xenon front 3 speed cogs and dérailleur group set;
- Alloy KF saddle post and lightweight racing saddle (unknown make);
- 2 x sets of holes in the frame for water bottles and pumps;
- Campagnolo Xenon front and rear brakes;
- ITM alloy handlebar post;
- ITM Europa handlebars;
- Campagnolo 'finger touch' brake leavers and gear leavers.
Looks in good condition and recently been service. What should i be looking to pay

Hi, really depends on the condition, how much you like it, and how much you are willing to part with.
As a benchmark, you can pick up a 2nd hand Aluminium Giant Defy (2010 or newer) for £200-£300 on ebay.
The bike sounds really nice and as a guide, I would look at ebay for "Steel Road Bike", and try and compare something of a similar spec, if possible. There are steel racers from £100 through to £600 and beyond.
It's possible that things needs replacing on the bike, chainset, cranks etc, but it sounds like it is a much loved bike, no expense spared affair.
See what he wants for it.0 -
Thanks richard, and great advice smidsy0

and I wouldn't worry about it - it's a perfectly normal question - I can only assume the rules against it are to prevent the sudo sellers on here asking how much the bike they're trying to sell should be worth ... a good method to advertise!0 -
OK, fair enough.0
-
If you buy it, post a pic - sounds like a nice retro racer0
-
Yeah, suppose that makes sense, people asking how much it is worth, then wanting a PM for someone trying to buy it0

Got it for £100, asked my mate who is into his biking and he said its a good deal.
Its in immaculate condition0 -
That looks well tidy, enjoy it mate.0

There's nothing wrong with that bike. You may need to change the tyres as old tyres sometimes deteriorate and thus puncture easily. (Whether you go for more puncture proof or faster tyres is a choice you must make).0

That is really classy, and an epic deal at £100 - enjoy0

See how much better it looks the right way round! :-)
Did you say you may change the tyres? If so just get all black. Or maybe tan sidewalls.Yellow is the new Black.0 -
