Scandal!

Hey gang. Thought I would post some information on my bike, as it went off road for the first ever time yesterday round the trails of Ashton Court and Leigh Woods! Boy they have changed since I last rode them over 10 years ago! Previously the bike has had slicks on it and has been used as a commuter and everyday bike around London, along with more rigorous road duty like cycling from London to Bristol, doing the Olympic Road Race route and other hills around Dorking, and most recently doing the 40 mile loop to Clevedon and back as a part of Bristol's Biggest Bike Ride.
The frame itself was purchased from a forum member as a replacement for my Merlin Malt 1 which cracked around the weld at the top of the seat tube. The extremely short length the steerer had been cut to (my mistake for not asking the LBS I used to keep it longer) necessitated I needed a frame with a short head tube to build up, which the Scandal fulfilled for a fair price. Sadly the bars are not as high as they look in the pics - look at where the stem is affixed to the steerer for a more accurate representation. It's quite racy!

The spec is a bit of a mish-mash of parts, with the base being a 2007 Merlin Malt 1 LX build. The only things remaining from the original spec are the shifters, front derailleur, cassette, chain and basically unused tyres. All up weight is ~12kg according to some luggage scales.
Frame: On One Scandal 18"
Fork: Rockshox Recon Race Solo Air from Ebay. Originally from a La Pierre I believe
Headset: FSA Orbit
Groupset: Shimano Deore chainset/LX shifters, front derailleur, cassette & chain/SLX shadow rear derailleur
Brakes: Hayes Stroker Ryde
Rotors: Hayes V6 160mm
Wheels: Giant factory wheels from Ebay - DT Swiss hubs, Mavic XM317 disc rims
Tyres: Panaracer Fire XC Pro wire bead 2.1"
Pedals: Shimano M520
Bars: Carbon Cycles eXotic Scandium high rise 700mm
Stem: Carbon Cycles eXotic 80mm
Seatpost: Carbon Cycles eXotic Meta II 350mm
Cables: Full outers
Saddle: WTB Rocket V Ti
Grips: Lizardskins lock on
Any thoughts/comments welcome!

Looks good that, whats the steerer been cut down too?0

Oh God I don't know off the top of my head. 180-185mm maybe? There's one 5mm spacer and that's it...0

About the same as mine ive a 5mm and 2mm spacer sits nicely for me but im shorter than you which may be why. If your struggling on height maybe also try a slightly taller stem to help.0

Agreed, as you have riser bars anyway a riser stem would be the logically way to raise the grips.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

I've recently lowered the saddle a bit which has completely transformed the bike off road and the bars feel perfect.
However now I am looking for a seatpost with a bit of layback to keep me in the right position.0 -
This is how it ended up at the end of last summer. Sadly it is now suspended from the rafters of my parents' garage down in Bristol whilst I am studying in Liverpool. I did pinch the saddle to use on my Kinesis though! I do still need a layback post as it was as far forward on the rails as it could go with the inline one.
