Hi there, My right hand side shifter has broken. I think it is a 2007 model like this

http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/ ... vers-28238

I am just looking at a replacement. Can I use any of the present day 10 speed campag shifters or am I going to have problems seeing it is a QS model and also the rear derailleur is also a 2007 model. Just wondering what I need to replace. Any help asap would be much appreciated as I need to fix it before a time trial on Sunday.

Thanks

The thread below *might* help. There are some other subtle changes as well as QS compatibility.....

If all else fails, just buy and try!

Xenon 10 speed still available online will be fine.

in theory you can get them fixed at slagnola service centers YMMV... or diagnose the issue/part yourself. youtube is your friend

    simple solution. xenon online here

I think guaranteed next day is available

Anything higher spec than xenon available for it?

Just replacing the right hand lever? Any 10 speed lever will work. QS was related to the front mech (less throw and shorter pivot on the mech).

Was the old lever standard ergoshift or 'escape' shift (the latter being what a lot of folks think QS refers too as they came out at similar times)? If the former, the thumb levers are LEVERS - with multiple shifts and trimming. If the latter, then they're buttons with one shift and no trimming.

In modern campag terms, ergoshift is called ultrashift and escape is called powershift. Currently, all 10 speed kit is powershift, but in 2009 and 2010, Veloce and Centaur were ultrashift.

Officially, the cable pull needed to jump one sprocket on the rear differs between the 10 speed ultrashift and powershift mechs (as the more recent powershift mechs use the 11-speed paralellogram) but from all accounts, they differ so little there's no noticable issues.

So, if you can find one, get a 2009/10 ultrashift Veloce or Centaur right lever. If not, a current model.

If you replace the left lever too, my understanding is that the powershift front mechs use QS-length mech pivot but the ultrashift front mechs use the standard length (might be wrong here). I've used both a powershift and ultrashift front mech with an ultrashift lever and both work - but the ultrashift/powershift combination was a little harder to set up perfectly.

If you're buying both levers, I'd suggest just installing the right lever for the event. Then you'll have more time to make sure the front mech is compatible later - and if not, buy a matching front mech.

Thanks for your help so far. I have had a look and it is the 2007 veloce model. Looking at the brochure it says the shifters use the escape mechanism. This seems to make sense as the thumb button was just a one press thing and no trimmer (well I wasn't aware of any)
So does that mean I would be best just buying the current 10 speed power shifters? I guess the existing rear derailleur may still work? or am I better just buying a new one? Same with the QS front mech?

Yup - I think current Veloce levers would be a good bet. The rear mech should be fine from the accounts I've heard regarding matching old and new - but a new one will give you more options regarding rear cassette sizes.

I've used on older QS front with non-QS levers (Xenon) and that has worked. I've used Ultrashift levers with a powershift front mech and that's been fine (though was harder to set up than with an ultrashift mech). I have read that using a QS mech with non-QS levers means that the lever push is stiffer. So I would say it should work, but maybe not as well as if you changed the mech to match?

PS I have a powershift veloce front mech knocking about (2011). Black band-on 27.2mm. Not many mile but the logo has rubbed off (I think the surface must have been greasy before it was painted on - as it was rubbed off, not scratched off). You're welcome to try it if it'll fit your seat tube. I could post if off to you so it's at hand when you install the levers. If the QS mech is problematic, then you can try it to see if it's any better. If you don't need it or don't want it, just send it back. If you want to keep it, we can sort out a price.

Record Q/S shifters are still in production. Expensive but the the best 10 speed shifters. These are stock items for me so other campag dealers should have them too. Expect to pay around £250 for the pair with cables.

I have a Q/S 2010 veloce lever set and a 2012 veloce front mech on my wifes bike and it shifts fine. Anyway Q/S front mech (NOS) are still available in the right places so it not an issue that you have to mix and match unless you are on a tight budget then mix and match it is.
