6700 shifters with da 7900 rear mech.

Hi Guys.
Need a bit of advice if anyone can help. I've fitted a dura ace rear mech with ultegra 6700 shifters.
The problem im having is that the first couple of clicks on the shifter has no change of gear. After this slack is taken up, the shifting works as normal. I'm pretty sure this didn't happen on the 6700 rear mech and wonder if its a slight incompatibility problem. Anyone else had similar issues. Thanks.

Should work OK according to shimano compatibility chart. Have you taken up all the cable slack when shifter is fully indexed to lowest setting?

Yes. Taken up the slack several times and still the same problem. Doing my head in.

All 8-9-10 speed shimano shifters and derailleurs work with each other. The indexing is only in the shifter and the total range of movement from low to high is the same for 8, 9 or 10 speed. 10 speed just pulls less cable per shift than 9 speed which, in turn, pulls less cable than 8 speed.

So, as above, it sounds like you didn't take up the slack in the cable before clamping it.

Make sure the high stop is set before attaching the cable, press the small STI lever until it won't shift anymore, take up the slack, connect the cable, shift up to the large sprocket, set the low stop and Robert's your mother's brother.

Thanks guys. Turns out the high and low limit screws are mega fussy. Got it sorted now. Cheers for the advice.
