    Budget?
Schwalbe City jet are the go to budget option at circa £11 each, after that you are into better and lighter tyres for more money, WTB Slickasaurus, Panaracer RiBiMo, Conti sport contact, Kojaks etc etc....

I have excellent service from some WTB's I bought 'pre-loved' for my commuter that are now wearing out at circa 3000miles of use in my hands.

Some schwalbe cityjets would be ideal for road riding.

I'm still to try some out myself but heard they are good of a few people I know who cycle.

I would go for 1.95 width as i'm a big lad so the extra size would be better for me.

Also will a 1.5 width tyre fit on a mtb rim, i've never tried one ?

    A 1.5 would be my choice, if someone at 80Kg can run a 23mm I'm sure a '38mm' will cope with 120+kg!

A 1.5" tyre will fit on most MTB rims just fine, only full on DH width would cause an issue.
