How much oil should seep past the seals on a Fox Fork?

I have Fox Float 120 RL forks and on the left stanchion I can see a little bit of oil has come up to the top of the travel I have used. There is also some sitting in and around the seal itself. It's not a huge amount. Should any be coming up at all, or is a bit ok? Will this get worse? Am I damaging them? They function fine and there is no other signs of wear.

Fox don't have the reputation for being the most robust, oil up can equal dirt down and that can lead to stanchion wear, so yes, service needed!

well under the scraper seal is a foam ring soaked in oil. under that is the air seal.

so some oil on the legs is quite normal. more so just after a service.

  • It's got worse the last ride or two. I think I need to give these a full service now. Hmm
