Impressions of 2013 Tour de Suisse....
I know I’m a bit late with these (tinypic upload issues!) and that the ‘Main Event’ just over the border will soon be upon us but I manage to catch 4 stages of the Tour de Suisse this year and even ‘take part’ in the Prologue in Quinto.
Here’s a selection of my photos....
Cornercard, one of Fäbu’s sponsors organise the Cancellara Challenge which allows 300 hundred mere mortals and a few Swiss ‘Celebz’ to ride the Prologue course on the morning of the race with the Pros starting after lunch. You have to try and predict the difference between Fäbu’s time and your time and that is how the official results are declared, but of course there’s the scratch list which I was much more interested in! It was the full start, from the ramp, including the peeps and zehn......funf, vier, drei, zwei, eins LOS!
Posing before...
On the start ramp...
My Time....
Posing after....
Scratch List.....39th!
Then there was time to look around the team buses, a look at some bike p0rn and watch the pros warning up.....
Then a bit of fancy flying by the Patroulle Suisse....
Then the TT proper....
The following day http://www.cervorosso.ch organised a photoshoot on the climb up to Crans Montana to get some new piccies for their website and to get a bit of free TV time on Eurosport et al with their ‘trademark’ VW Combi known as ‘Spartabus’.....
In Sion prior to going up the road to Crans Montana
Base Camp...
Obviously ‘Spartabus’ caught his attention!!...
A few pics of the groups going through....
Spartacus laughing and smiling after seeing Spartabus (ripped from the Cervo Rosso website)
High 5 with Carlyle Ware, the fouder of Cervo Rosso!...
The end of the day...
Then on Tuesday and Wednesday, the tour passed right in front of where work as it finished and then started the following day in Buochs.
I manage to get on the inside of a curve to get a number of close-ups......
On the Wednesday I nipped out a little early to ride the Luzern GP TT (complete disaster for me with a puncture before the start, a wrong turn and an overcooked corner resulting in a full stop) but just as I was leaving work, the friendly Swiss soldier blocked the road and the Peleton came in the other direction.....
So whilst Matthias Frank couldn’t manage to hold on to the leaders Jersey in the final stage, I really enjoyed this years TdS and was happy to have had my chance of being a ‘Pro’ for a day (or two if you count being in a photoshoot)
