AS the title says what's a decent brake upgrade from the avid elixir 1's, I got some brake fade going down a decent sized section at dalby!

How you know it was down to the quality of the brakes?

Deore 596. Buy them and use them with the Avid discs. You will not regret it.

Fade is dependant on pad material and disc size/weight, changing the system squashing the pad to the disc won't help as 97C has said.

Well I just presume that the brakes are at fault? Upgraded is always better than standard isn't it?

Well no, because they are an upgrade to some mechanical discs. As said in the other thread uprate the disc to 180 mm and see how you get on.

How should I check for the wear and how would it look?
How long would I expect them to last in dalby?

Wear where? Pads or rotors?

Pads, do they literally look worn out? I play with car parts for a living and bike parts aren't my forte! Haha

They look worn out until they are totally worn out and the backing plate eats the rotor.

You might want to change them before they get quite as fubared as that though.

Change pads when...
1/ They look like on the next ride you'll be down to the backplate
2/ They are worn more at one end than the other
3/ they are worn more on the inside than the outer
