Might be a good read.

Ghost written by Lionel Birnie I presume.

I hardly ever buy and read these type of books but this one I may get. Just for the racing anecdotes alone.

He sold it well when he was doing the giro with quigley - he was asked if there are any amusing anecdotes in the book to which sean replied "Yes, there are quite a few" - for that reason I'm in.

So, we we get an opinion on doping or his older mucker, Pat McQuaid?

That won't be why people will buy it.

Maybe he'll spill the beans on the early Harmon internet 'facts' ... by god that was irritating ... he thought by 'seeming' knowledgable he would win over the anti-Duffers crowd ... Harmon wasn't even smart enough to hide the fact that the rider in the break came 12th in the Uzbekistan under 17 purple pant wearing championships ...
  • The David Walsh biography of him published in the mid 80's was one of the things that got me into racing. It'll be interesting to hear it from the horse's mouth.

^A Man For All Seasons - not many words but some classic pictures. I remember some of them from the likes of Winning.

Indeed. People will buy this one to actually read about racing.

There were two books, the one you mention and a full autobiography, written by David Walsh, called simply "Kelly". I think I've still got my copy somewhere, but you can pick it up from abebooks (or awesomebooks as they are now called I think.

Anyway, no Kindle version of the Kelly book. Which goes to show that he's still a late adopter.

And how he is still trying to teach Harmon the same.
I hope he has that stage into Verdun where he gave the "Break" some bollockings for not working and espescially the Texan who won the stage.

I hope Sean got lots of help with the book as he is not exactly verbose. Famed for answering questions during a radio interview with a shake or a nod of the head. Anyway, looking forward to it, I love the Irish hard man. Its not difficult to see why the Belgians also took to him, he could have been one of there own.
Excellent footage of him out running in the snow, to keep his fitness up, on the Kelly DVD I have.

If you look on the entry on Amazon they sometimes put a box which you can click to ask them to bring a book out on Kindle.

It won't happen in this case. Birnie is a luddite (Hi Lionel) :P

I had a long chat to him about this and he has his reasons, which are valid I guess.

He still goes to Glastonbury to watch it live in the mud, rather than watching it on BBC red button like sensible people.

Given all the current media coverage of the 1998 doping, I'd be interested to know what 'anecdote' Kelly has decided to include in his book about his doping ban.

I don't remember the year but, like 4-5 years ago Valverde was initially only first banned by the Italian cycling federation and by nowhere else, Kelly was one time banned by the Belgian cycling federation and by nowhere else. Fortunately for Kelly, the ban wasn't later taken up by other countries.

I like Kelly's resumes after the Tour stages, but he seems to get wilder in manner with the years. I can't decide if this is just an Irish trait (possible) or whether (without wanting to offend him or fans) the onset of some affliction.

I see Kimmage is having a pop at Kelly for not addressing doping in every page of his book.

I on the other hand am looking forward to it, make a pleasant antidote to the Hamilton book, which I still enjoyed but for different reasons.
