I am replacing Tiagra 9 speed shifters cassette and chain with 105 5700.

I have attached the shifters and fed through the gear cables, my question is where is it best to run the outer cable?

It naturally runs over the brake outer do i tape them down together or run the shifter outer the other side of the bar?

I want to get it right before i put the bar tape over!

If you have not yet connected them up, then using the straight exit out of the lever will let you run the cable round the outside bend of the bars, which should give a wider radius bend. Tight bends are often blamed for poor shift performance. Using the angled exit will bring the cable out alongside the brake cable and take the inside curve of the bars.

You can tape the outers up temporarily with insulating tape. If the routing looks OK and works, leave the insulating tape in place an put the handlebar tape on over the top. Remember to check that you have left enough slack in the outer to enable the handlebars to move fully.
