- Stunning views are the reward for the day's hard effort.
- Refreshed route for 2013
- An audax event with a 26 year pedigree (long before the word 'sportive' ever came to fruition)

I would not miss this for the World. My entry is already in.

As a word of warning to any Kidderminster Killer novices, bring your lights. This is no joke! Last year a few individuals were caught out despite the good Doctor's warnings. Whilst most 200km routes can be completed before dusk, The Kidderminster Killer can easily take longer.

Anyone seeking an easier day would be recommended to ride the short version, From Clee to Heaven, which is a great route, so I am told.

There are a couple of good blogs from last year at http://machacasonwheels.blogspot.co.uk/ ... derminster and http://machacasonwheels.blogspot.co.uk/search?q=clee

I would be well up for this, would prefer it to be with a group to keep company.

Yepp, lovely route and well recommended this one but you will need your climbing legs!

I did this last year and thoroughly enjoyed it but cannot make it this time around as I am off to the Jura Mountains with the family (and I happen to be taking my bike :) ).

Generally speaking you will find people to ride with. The overall group usually fragments into smaller ones based upon preferred speeds. Few people ever ride alone.

That's only just up the road from me, don't think I'm fit enough yet but I'll definitely try it out in a year or two!!
  • Both events now half filled with several weeks still to go.

The routes have been checked this week:
    - some nice tweaks to improve some sections
    - the shorter Clee audax now avoids a long tedious drag by a further traverse of Brown Clee
    - GPX files have been amended
    - new route cards will soon be uploaded to the Beacon website
    - potholes identified and reported to Shropshire council for filling in readiness for the event
    - Cake and bacon sandwiches on order :?

We did the Killer last year as part of our End to End training and its no picnic but its certainly scenic and very well run.Beats most UK sportives into a cocked casquette.
Whats the solution? Just pedal faster you baby.

I rode the Clee to Heaven route yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Excellent organisation, cracking cake stops (Ray's Farm is nice in the summer, I'll bet :) ), and last but not least a great route.

Although I've visited this part of the world several times I didn't know it in the sense that you get a feel for a county by riding the lanes and climbing the hills. Despite the dismal forecast, the "weather fairies" were good to us and we only caught a heavy shower around midday, although the wind was getting up as the afternoon progressed.

I find cyclists are generally a friendly lot and this was borne out by the easy conversations and camaraderie en route. Definitely one for the diary next year.
    Purveyor of "up" :)
