Rider down - me

Came a cropper in RP this morning. Was out doing a practice run for the TT. It started raining just as I got going and the road got greasy quickly. I am usually pretty catious on the roundabouts and today was no different, but as I started to put the power on out of the Kingston Gate RB, the bike just went from underneath me. Verdict is a bit of road rash and I've tweaked something in my calf. Also starting to get a bit sore around the er, lower groin area.

Helmet lovers will be delighted to know that I was helmeted - the TT requires it so I've been training with one. However, as with every other off, I had the presence of mind to keep my head up, so no damage done there. Thankfully the bike seems ok and there's no damaged to my lovely Castelli bibs (the same cannot be said for the skin underneath them).

Sore and stiff now. Hopefully I haven't done any real damage to my calf, will take a few days off the bike to make sure.

All in all not too bad, thankfully it was low speed. Also thanks to the driver and cyclist who stopped to check I was ok.

Stupid rain.

Never quite understood how skin gets damaged and the lycra that covered it can look unmarked, I've had that a few times.

Hope it heals soon and that it's all just cosmetic.

Yes - but also had the alternative which is melted Hely Hansen material stuck to me. Yuck.

IP - unlucky. I too have been caught out powering out of a roundabout on frost, and it's fecking horrible. My sympathies. Get well soon.

Oh dear. Some bits of RP seem to have a special extra slippery when wet road surface on them. Hope you heal fast.

I hope you were wearing that new helmet?

    Heal up.

Edit: Just read the post. Helmet confirmed. Although I would have thought that thing gave you some extra grip in the corners.

Sorry to hear of your crash, which way were you going? I've noticed the gravel on the corner turning onto dark hill is quite nasty at the moment and could do with sweeping off the road.

Glad to hear you and bike are mainly OK.

It rained for the final TT last year and people were dropping like flies. Cancellara corner generally worse - I nearly lost it powering out of there, on the drops andout of the saddle, the rear wheel just flicked out - scary moment.

The list of communters doing this TT seems to keep growing - is there a separate thread yet?!

Yeah I should be there. Just had call from Cadence telling me they have sorted my bike out (hurrah!) so I have 11 days to get some hardcore training in. Palace on Tuesday, maybe Richmond Park next Wednesday, turbo time etc etc. Do I have time to get in shape?

Would start a separate thread but don't have time / wherewithal to post links to event etc. Maybe this evening if I remember.

I had a spill this morning too. First in over a year! I made a sloooow left turn over some of those granite stones they like to "decorate" the streets with in Islington. My middle finger is now eerily reminiscent of a saveloy, but luckily the bike is ok.

BTW, Oh hai! I'm new here...
