Hi all
I've bust my ankle (mowing the bloody lawn of all things) so my riding and triathlon plans are all ruined for the summer. I reckon I'll be riding again by late August/early September so I'm looking for a couple of events to sign up for in the September/October timeframe. I'm looking for well run events of 60-100 miles within an hour's (ish) drive of Birmingham. I will be relatively unfit so something not too hilly would be good for the comeback. Does anybody have any recommendations based on experience?
Cheers

You could try this:
http://www.evanscycles.com/ride-it/cann ... tober-2013
I don't know what the course is but it should not be as hilly as the first 2 I did, and they are well organised and pretty cheap. I'm doing this one too.0 -
nice one mikey, think ill do that one myself.Dulce et decorum est Pro patria mori0

Brian Rourke Cat & Fiddle Ride from Stoke - usually early October. Cheap as chips, good food afterwards. A few hills such as Cat & Fiddle, Axe Edge and one or two late stings in the tail but nothing to fear really. 55miles approx.0

There's also: http://www.itpevents.co.uk/events/natio ... eyond.htmlNew for 2013 is the National Forest and Beyond sportive. Based at the newly built Pirelli Stadium, home of Burton Albion FC, the routes take in the quiet lanes of the west side of the National Forest and beyond to east Staffordshire.
Choose from 94, 76 and 58 mile routes, with over 5000ft of climbing on the long route. The routes are varied over rolling terrain, with a couple of sharp 13% climbs thrown in make sure you know where your gears are.
The long route has two feedstations, at 30 and 74 miles, the other routes have one. Riders will receive the usual sports gels and bars at the start, the feedstations will be stocked with water, sports drink and a variety of sweet and savoury food.
Once arriving back at Burton Albion FC there are good shower and changing facilities. Soup, sandwiches and tea and coffee are included in the entry fee. The bar will also be open (definitely not included in the entry fee!)
Still tempted by this one as Burton is my old home town.Chunky Cyclists need your love too! :-)

Loads on here http://www.cyclosport.org/events/Sep-2013/UK.html especially as so much of the country is within 100 miles of Birmingham. The one in Malvern looks a god bet. There used to be one in Shropshire (Church Stretton from memory) around October time that I can't remember the name of but was quite a tough one. One0

If this did not clash with Motorcycles at Donington I would be there trying to hang on to your wheel.
