Replacing Smaller Cage Derailleur with Long Cage

Hi,
My SRAM X5 derailleur died a few days ago on my Carrera Fury 2010 (3X9 gears) so i bought another from CRC. I have no idea about these parts and so i was recommended br CRC to buy the long cage version. On receiving the item, i have noticed that my current derailleur's cage length is much shorter.
The question is, will it be ok to just do a straight swap, or will i need to adjust anything else like the chain etc?
If there are any further details about my bike that you need to know, just let me know and i will try and find out. At the moment i am not too clued up on cassettes, chainrings, gearing etc.
I have attached a picture for reference. The old (current) one is about 12cm long, and the new one is about 14cm.

A long cage will work where a short will but not the other way round!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

makes no difference.stops and tension will need setting as normal."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
