How many extra links....if any?
I'm running the standard 50/34 compact with a 12-25 cassette.
I want a slightly lower gear obviously and am looking at a Miche Primato in either 12-27 or 12-29. My group is all Campag Veloce and Xenon mix and I've checked that the Mech can handle a 29 tooth.
First question. Will I notice a massive difference from 25 to 27 teeth or is my better option the 29. I like spinning and typically ride with a high cadence no matter what gear I'm in.
Also, should I go for 29, will I definitely need extra links in the chain? If so, how many is it likely to be?
Thanks
Paul

yes you should notice a difference. 29 seems excessive on a compact unless you're really struggling on hills or they are very steep and long but it depends on fitness of course.0

29 and compact is not excessive IME. The only issue with the 12/29 is a quite large jump from the 29 to the next sprocket.
There are certainly times when I am glad I have the option of 34/29.Yellow is the new Black.0 -
I'm frequently glad I have the option of 34/32 :!: Spare the knees and work the CV system every time0
