Deore front mech tyre clearance issue

Hey folks, I'm using a Deore triple front mech, I presume it's 2010/2011 model. I'm running Maxxis High roller 26" tyres and the clearance between the rear tyre and front mech is VERY tight. I'm talking barely enough room to fit a finger. In fact I had to adjust it so that when it's fully slackened off, the rear part wasn't stopping the wheel from rotating..
The frame that I took it off of didn't have a problem due to different geometry (Vodoo Bokor > Pipedream Scion).

Is this a common problem? I've done a bit of Googling and not found a solid answer. Is there such a thing as a low profile mech? Currently it's bottom clamp and I don't see how a top clamp would help, if anything it would be closer to the tyre..

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks.

your tyre is too big for the frame.

you will have the same issue with any mech.

this is presuming that the crankset is correctly mounted.

  • Ah OK, fair enough. I have always thought the High Rollers look huge as hell and weigh a ton. Nice excuse to spend more money!
