140mm forks for a Trance

I have started riding more around the Peak District classic routes and downhill sections at trail centres (also riding harder and faster), and so thinking about replacing the stock Fox 125mm F series fork on my Trance X3 with some 140mm forks. The bike has a Float R rear shock which is fine.

I plan to buy a 140mm fork (new or used), service the F125 myself and then sell it on.

I have seen this Rockshox fork: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181157585137? ... 1423.l2648

And this Fox fork: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200932421666? ... 1423.l2649

Also this Fox fork aswell: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290928314997? ... 1423.l2648

Budget is up to £400 as I will sell the F125 on. Anyone got any experience of the above forks or other reccomendations? Needs to be tapered steerer and 15mm axle. Cheers.

I had Rockshox Pikes on my Trance which I sold to someone else who fitted them to a Trance.
140 forks on a Trance works great. Personally I would always take rockshox over fox. They feel nicer to me, they're cheaper and need less servicing

I wouldn't bother fitting the fox float 140mm, it's only going to be slightly more travel and a bit less stiff.

If/when I upgrade mine it will probably be for the new pike, but I would pick the revelation out of those.

The new Pike is way too long for the Trance. 140mm just slackens it up nicely, adds a little stability and improves the steering and it's ability when trails get a bit nasty. A 160mm fork is going to give a very high bottom bracket height and ruin the steering and stability and possibly break the frame. The old Pikes were perfect for the Trance

Damn, I thought it was 140mm but that's the 29er.

Yeah I have seen lots of comments about the 140mm fork upgrade being good for the trance.
I think I am going to go the rockshox route just for a bit of variation.
Im buying together the bits (10wt green oil, skf seal set etc) to service the F125's when they come off, but I cant find anywhere the oil amount to put in the forks before reassembly! Fox service documents only give info for the 120mm forks etc.

I picked up some 140mm Fox Floats RLC with the FIT damper for my 2011 Trance X3. It was a capable bike before but it's been unstoppable with these on! I managed to pick up a little used set, off a Zesty 914 for £250.

I certainly wouldn't go above 140mm travel as it would compromise climbing and low speed handling a little too much.

Good luck with the search! :)
If at first you don't succeed, spend some more money on kit!
