Sometimes, this place could do with an "ignore poster" button or maybe just a larger  icon.

OP - wishing your wife a speedy recovery & echo the recommendations of her instructing a solicitor to handle the claim.

Yes really ......isn't it just making a fool of a forum that thinks its right all the time ...someone has a different opinion all of a sudden everybody's thinks there are right and lets gets stuck in ...i lost the bet i thought only 2 people would have just leapt in with both feet
Does this mean you have friends?

Isn't just great to throw a carrot into the crowd and see what happens

Sorry could not resist........I hope your partner feels better and she gets her payout sorted

If you thought what you did was funny or clever in any way, shape or form, then you need to take a good hard look at yourself my friend. All you did was make yourself look very, very silly. Not that I think for a minute you posted your original comments 'as a carrot' in the first place. The only thing funny, is your frantic back pedalling. Now that's comical.

  • Bit of an update and words of caution for anyone involved in a similar incident.

Over 2 months on and the insurance company have accepted liability for the accident which is a bonus as we had collated witness statements and were prepared for a fight. We have got an independent quote for the bike damage and that will hopefully be paid relatively soon.

The cautionary note is that 2 months on my wife is still in significant pain and discomfort from the accident. She started seeing a physio 3 weeks ago and the upshot of this is that she has been referred to an orthopaedic surgeon for a consultation with a view to surgery on a SLAP tear (you can wiki this, I hadn't heard of them myself). This is in addition to rotator cuff damage and a hairline fracture to her collarbone. There is potential for a pretty significant bill at the end of it that we would certainly not be able to afford had we not pursued the legal/insurance angle. Ignore idiots like the one in this thread who think this is about profiting - it's not - and do not accept any compensation for your injuries until it's clear what the prognosis is, it could save you a huge amount in the long run.

Thanks for the update. Wise words and I hope you're wife recovers as swiftly as possible,

  • There's a world of difference in crashing because it's your own fault and crashing because of someone else's fault. You need to be put back in the same position as you were in if the crash had not occurred. It's that simple.

Glad it looks like it's being sorted properly and also hope she recovers quickly and fully.
I completely agree with the comment about waiting to see the prognosis fro the injuries. 11 months after my accident it's still going on, unfortunately the independent medical report has some glaring errors so I'm trying to get that put right at the moment.

Good luck to the OPs wife, and Veronese, good luck for you too. Hope you've healed well.

Thanks Bails. Mostly healed, though my finger is a bit wonky and won't quite fully flex and a big scar on my arm. Not too much in the grand scheme of things.

    Chicks dig scars.

That is the thing with accidents, its today, tommorow or even next week that you might have problems, it could be much further along the line than that.

It can be a long haul if someone knocks you off your bike. Despite being encouraged to do so, the other side of my case have declined to make an offer even after 2 1/2 years and it will probably go to at least lodging papers at court. I'd have probably taken an early offer to get the paperwork out of my life, but since they are going to put me through it, I may as well aim high. If my experience is anything to go by, I just don't accept that insurance companies in general cough up easily and add £X to our tax premiums.

Anyway - hope all is well with the various reported injuries here. The body can take a while to get to where it can get to but over time and with persistence it does have a suprising capacity for adapting to what you ask of it. Some of the times I'm most comfortable is when I'm being active. I shouldn't even be able to stand on one foot for 30 seconds, let alone cyle commute a 28 mile and 650m of climbing round trip.
