As the title implies I was recently unfortunate enough to spend some time time in Edinburgh. Only half a day, a short time by some peoples' standards but not by mine.

Having been raised on a diet of shock-horror journalism I was expecting the worst, but here are the SHOCKING facts of what I observed during a half-hour walk in rush hour:

NO pavementing
NO tempting fate by going up the inside of large vehicles
NO RLJ-ing
NO collisions with peds
ONE salmon (only a few metres though)

Pathetic.

Come on Edinburgers, get your s*** together. Us Weegies are counting on you to keep the haters on the boil.

We can't help that this is the civilised side of the world.

Plus our streets are less confusing (ignoring the constant tramworks) so there's less need for jumping around.
I'm left handed, if that matters.

Are there any decent bike routes in Edinburgh? Glasgow has 1 route along the Clyde and that's pretty much it.

    Google?

I have not tried most of these (if any) but for starters you can head down to Portobello and follow the coast east to North Berwick.
Or from Musselburgh head through Tranent up to the Lammermuirs, Duns.
People more familiar with the Pentlands can advise there maybe?
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

I like the Lammermuir route best - the road to Garvald is epic. The coast usually ends up in a nasty headwind on the way home. East Lothian is a beautiful place.

All the best routes are in easr lothian and the borders and can be linked up for epic rides. You could also try thencircle around the pentlands, along the Lang Whang. a classic route for the locals.

I drove a road in the Borders this week that looked fantastic. Basically between Melrose and Kielder. It had some pretty long climbs but was beautiful. Nice quiet roads and good visibility too.

Hoping to ride it in a few weeks when I have some time. Need to get some miles in first though because it would be a tough 50 miler.
