Hybrids <£500

Hi
I'm looking for some recommendations for hybrid bikes around the 500 quid mark after the theft of my hardtail.
As my hardtail was only getting used for commuting i figured i may as well get something built for the task. £500 is my maximum as i don't think its worth spending more on it for what i'm going to use it for.
I want something as close to a road bike as possible in terms of speed but with a flat bar for city riding. I also want a rigid fork as i always had my forks locked out on the road and suspension forks on hybrids are often really low end.
I was considering the boardman comp hybrid from halfords, not fussed about it being from halfords as i'm happy to do my own wrenching.
So can anything else similar compete with the boarman?
Thanks-Dan

Carbon fork, great kit, very low weight for the money.0 -
That is excellent value, although personally I prefer a commuter to have disc brakes for better responce in the wet.....too many suicidal peds round my way!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0
