I'm looking for some advice on knee and elbow pads...
i have been down hugging the gravel before, and after one of our riding group did the same last week, on a simple trail, i've been thinking about getting some lightweight knee and elbow protection.
i want something comfortable and low profile, that can fit under clothing if required.
its more for abrasion resistance at the moment than big impacts.
but.... what the hell do i buy??
G form seem to have a good following.
661 Riot?
fox launch knee pads? but the elbow pads look... umm.. odd... lol
any other ideas? what do we reccomend?
thanks!!

Have a look at the 661 Rhythm range. They're low profile foam pads in a lycra sleeve0

Race Face have just brought out the Charge line of pads that are just a strip of foam with a kevlar outer. Very little impact resistance, but very thin and, relatively, reasonably priced.0

Looked at the 661 rage pads on a lBS today. Bit too chunky for what I want so they are rules out at the mo!
Those race face charge pads look like what I'm after! The 661 rhythm pads look ok, but I'm not a massive fan of that blue pad you can see.
Just gotta find some large race face knee pads in stock somewhere now! Lol0 -

one shall be buying some tonight then! lol0 -
I've got the 661 Rhythm knee pads (bought them 'cos they were reduced to £15) - they're very comfy (don't notice them when pedalling), but they do get warm on sunny days - it's like wearing leg warmers (although I guess that would be a plus on colder days). I'm looking at replacing them with either Nukeproof Criticals or Raceface Ambush (the Ambush has the flexible D3O armour and opens at the back, so you can put them on without taking your shoes off).
For elbows I recently bought Nukeproof Criticals, which have CE approved flexible Sastec armour and are comfortable to wear.0 -
ive ordered a set of the raceface charge pads.
ill see what they are like when they get here i guess.
if they are too weedy and fragile, then i may go for something chunkier
both the ambush and the nukeproof ones look like nice pads!0 -

They get a good mini review in one of this months mags, for what you want them for - i.e. comfortable abrasion resistance with a little impact protection.

They both are. Undecided yet whether to go for the Ambush knee, or the Nukeproofs to match my elbows. Both are comfy and well built, but the Ambush has the flexible CE approved D3O armour, where the Nukeproof knees make do with hardshell armour and foam padding (as opposed to the flexible CE Sastec in the Nukeproof elbows). Not sure why they elected not to use the better Sastec in the knees like they do in the elbows - if the knees had the sastec too then I'd go straight for those, since they're about £22 cheaper than the Ambush. The 661 Evo knees are good too, they have the D3O armour too, similar price to the Raceface Ambush. Think I'm gonna order one of each from CRC, give 'em a good try on, try them on the bike, choose which one to keep and send the others back.0 -
well the knee pads came today!
love them so far. havent ridden in them, but seem comfy and secure on, and very low profile, and do look like they would stop knocks and slides from causing bodily harm! lol0
