pedal help please

i'm getting road bike shoes and clip in pedals (not sure of the right terminology) this week

the problem is i have large/wide feet is there someway to extend the pedals as i think my feet will be too close to the side??

(not sure the above makes sense or not)

    Most pedal cleats are adjustable and can be mounted to position your shoe further from the crank. Pedal axle spacer shims can also be used to gain a few mm of extra distance from the crank. Also some pedals offer a longer pedal axle option, Speedplay being one but I'm not sure about others. Try the cleat positioning first and go from there.
