How do you find the range of gears?

I looked at them when I got my latest bike at the beginning of the year. They look nice, but I didn't think that they were particularly good value.
In the end I went for a 2012 model one of these: http://www.edinburghbicycle.com/products/revolution-courier-race-disc-13?bct=browse%2fbicycles%2fcommuter-hybrid-bikes
Its only got 8 gears like the Charge and I don't find that to be a problem at all (only use the top 3 gears, but then York is pretty flat). The bonus IMO is that mine has disc brakes which give much more confidence when surrounded by traffic in the pouring rain!0
