Any suggestions other than a new bike? I really quite like my bike and will be very sad if it needs to be retired.

Frame is an alloy Cannondale CAAD 5 and I'm London based if that is relevant.

Cannondale supposedly offer a lifetime warranty - so depends if you're the first owner and still have the receipt?
As the frame is made from heat-treated alloy, weld-repairs cannot guarantee structural integrity as the localised heat from the weld will change the material properties.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Sadly, I'm not the first owner and don't have the receipt. I think the bike is around 13/14 years old, so even if I did it would seem a little cheeky.

Does that mean someone somewhere will offer to weld it for me, but I should definitely not go down this route?

From a quick internet search, the aluminum alloy for the dropout 'might be' 6061.

I'd telephone welders in your area to find someone who is experienced welding / brazing(?) aluminum. You might also try aircraft repair shops.
