Hi,
I have a 2008 spec Trek 1.2 that currently has a SRAM 850 8 speed cassette. I am looking to change the cassette and chain for the first time and I wondered if I can upgrade to a 9 speed cassette/ chain without any other mods? The 2009 Trek 1.2's were fitted with SRAM PG950 cassettes, could I just fit one of those and will the rest of the gear mechanism work with 9 speed, or do I have to stick with an 8-speed cassette if I don't change anything else?

No - you'd need to change the STIs too ...0

but STIs, chain, cassette will be needed and a front mech recomended but the old one will work."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Ah, OK. Makes sense i suppose, it wouldn't be overstretched at either limit since it will be shifting across the same distance of block, just using a thinner chain and closer spaced cogs?Edinburgh Revolution Curve
