So....

John Dower (A Year in Yellow) is making a doco at the moment for ESPN based on Slaying the Badger (how he portrays the first chapter of Moore's book should be interesting... )

And now it seems that Shane Meadows is going to make a film based on Tommy Simpson:

So....who could play Major Tom?

Interesting. I'd rather see more films about current Pro-Tour riders though - there's been nothing to challenge Chasing Legends since release.

Wasn't that Pantani film from the guys who made Senna supposed to be out during the Giro?

Also, I never got on with Chasing Legends, thought it was a poor take on Hell on Wheels, with bloody Phil Ligget in place of the Tour's official historian.
"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

DG, think the Pantani film had a modest preview of some sort during the Giro - selected audience only, kind of thing.

I like this puff about the Badger-LeMond film - particularly the ref to the extremely expensive bottle of wine presented for the interview with the Badger

EDIT: to whet appetite for the Pantani film

"The men waved their hats, the ladies their umbrellas. One felt they would have liked to touch the steel muscles of the most courageous champions since antiquity. Who will carry off the first prize, entering the pantheon where only supermen may go?"

Still gives me goosebumps. Amazing movie.

I thought it had a lot of pretty cinematography, really enjoyed that bit. But I thought it was weak in terms of explaining what was going on. I know it's marketed at non-cycling fans but I just found some of the stuff in it ludicrous.

Plus I've never forgiven Phil Ligget for his narration on The Quest
He spins the pedals with the chain on the inside ring and accellerates to 60kph without the slightest effort

Talking about Gilberto Simoni. On the flat. On a rest day.

Can't find much on the Pantani film, the actor who is supposed to be playing him hasn't even got a mention of it on his IMDB page, normally they have films on there that haven't been released yet.

The bit in bold sounds like something Frenchfighter would write and then delete because it sounds too cheesy.

The Badger and JaJa have roles in Le Grand Boucle

out this week in France. It is a bit like those little interludes with the cyclist they put on C4 last year (tour de Francis) but stretched into a whole film.

I'd like to see the Italian Coppi biopic that came out a few year's ago on Italian TV. The clips looked very good.

My ultimate cycling film will have Liggett in his mac appearing out the mist of the Arenberg forest like one of Smiley's people like he did in the intro for P-R a few years ago.

Has anyone seen Allez, Eddy? I downloaded it a while ago but haven't watched it yet. Should I bother?

I thought Francis was real, wasn’t it/he? The French film is pure fiction.

This is a better link to the French film, with a film trailer, an English resume of film, and the film poster.

And here’s another still from it (not in the link) with Hinault and Ja-ja, the main character of the film between them.

I saw this in the clinic a month or so ago ( don't shoot me ), it's film about a fictional cyclist made by an ex semi-pro, Keneth Merken, based on his experiences.
